This Mexican-style turkey chorizo recipe offers a healthier and leaner alternative to traditional pork chorizo, without sacrificing flavor. What You Will Need

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons regular chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons hot chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon leaf oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 pound ground turkey (93/7 Lean, not non-fat)

The Process

1. Combine Spices: In a large bowl, combine the chili powders, sea salt, oregano, and garlic powder.

2. Add Liquids: Stir in the wine vinegar and water.

3. Incorporate Turkey: Gradually add the ground turkey to the spice mixture, mixing thoroughly until all the meat is evenly coated.

4. Form Patties or Crumble:

  • Patties: Divide the mixture into equal portions and form into patties, about ¼ cup each. 
  • Chunks: Cook as patties, then once cooked you can break the patties into chunks for tacos and other dishes.
  • Crumbled: Break the mixture into smaller pieces for use in tacos, stuffed chilis, tamales, or other dishes.

5. Cook the Chorizo:

  • Pan-frying: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties or crumbled chorizo and cook until browned and cooked through.
  • Grilling: Grill the patties over medium-high heat until cooked through.
